Historical Data About the Spartan Warrior Helmet
Spartan Helmets are found all over the Mediterranean countries, in their time they went long distances to reach their destinations. The first Roman helmet was found almost by accident, in 2003, when a group of amateur archaeologists were exploring with a metal detector!
For example, routine dredging of the Haifa harbor in Israel uncovered a 6th or 5th century BC Spartan Helmet. Despite being in the water for an untold number of years, the Spartan Helmet was in amazing shape.
Another, though much less complete Spartan Helmet, was found during an archeological dig in Crete. A 6th century Spartan Helmet fragment was unearthed during the dig. The engravings covering the fragment propels the belief that it belonged to a senior military officer.
Also, two Spartan Helmets were found off the coast of Northern Greece during the search for a Persian Armada that sank in stormy weather before reaching its target in the early 5th century BC.
And, in a comprehensive search and find in Athens, graves of 20 warriors were found, who were all buried with their Spartan Helmet, iron swords and knives.
Perhaps hard to believe, it in fact would be perfectly reasonable to one day find Spartan Helmets (click here for more) as far away as what we know now as Afghanistan and Iraq, because at its heyday, the empire of Alexander The Great included large portions of the middle east.
