To reduce any chance of a head injury, a competitor allowed to engage in a competition for three months if one was knockedunconciousst by a blow to the head. If the same incident happens again after these three months, they would not beallowed to compete for six months. Another knockoutto the head after this six month period results in a final exclusion of competitions.

ITF Tae kwon do is only semi-contact. It is not allowed to attack the head with full force. All the same, it is allowed to throw punches to the head, by using the so-called “killing-blow”, stopping just an inch before the target. To reduce injuries, ITF use gloves at sparring-competition.
