The Fixer Upper

Despite all my years I still feel like a little boy inside. I have a difficult time peering into the mirror and seeing a fully realized adult. I would have believed the birth of my second child would have altered it, yet I still seem to be in denial of the aging process.

And regarding aging -- or instead fighting it off -- my dear wife and I moved into a new house and this home features space in its basement for the home gym my dear wfe had always wanted. Of course, I am seeing dollar signs when I think about all the large and tiny things necessary, from the required but often forgotten weight benches and mats for exercise to selecting the most versatile of the many stationary bicycles.

Stationary bikes can be difficult these days. Do you go recumbent or upright bicycle? Should I select a digital or analog?

My dear wife seems determined to get one of those elliptical trainers too. Yes you understood that correctly. A stationary bicycle and an elliptical machine -- not just one or the other. My estimate is that the extra exercise equipment will go with the stretch mark cream she began using after the birth of youngest child. Wow I'll get it for that jest.

I have to be particular with our budget because our new home is more of a diamond in the rough. We wanted it this way, yet we still have to cautiously budget everything, even the cabinet knob (no joke). My dear wife has a pretty ambitious kitchen cabinet refacing design plotted, but must remind her the sink for the bathroom she wishes put in shall set us back a pretty penny, as well.

Gratefully, she and I both enjoy the rustic, natural style, so we're furnishing our new home with furniture which is unfinished. Yes, it still needs a little finishing, but she and I can keep our costs down and make higher quality furniture than we could purchase in any store.

I discovered a good coffee table with some decent, raw knotting and a entryway table in matching cherry wood. For our patio outside we are considering outside fireplaces and we'll furnish with a little inexpensive wicker furniture at first.

Providing for a new home might seem so mature, but I cannot help but sense I'm just playing house. The exercise equipment and furniture only feel as a new era of playthings.
