Just keep these ground level safety tips in mind, and you'll be fine:

Make sure you keep the orange tip fastened.

This is the most basic tip, however very important. Airsoft guns are designed to be exact or near exact replicas of the real thing. The orange tip is often the only distinguishing factor between an airsoft gun, and someone mistaking it for the real thing. So just to say again, make sure the orange tips is on the gun!

Additional Safety Tips

If you are a minor, make sure you have permission to use your airsoft gun. High powered airsoft guns can break the skin if used in close range. Therefore, wearing good heavy gear, including long sleeves and full pants is a good guard to keep you from getting hurt. Safety goggles are another must for the airsoft player.

Education is probably the best way to protect you or your child from harm. You'll want to be sure they know not to fire at too close of a range, that it is best not to aim for the headworks on the gun, etc. Instilling this info before they begin to compete is critical to ensuring long term safe competition.
