Locating Good Largemouth Bass Fishing Along Rivers
Don’t ever get it in your head that if you aren’t near a lake, that you don’t have a chance to catch big bass. If you have a river or backwater area near you, you have an excellent chance to catch some very good fish. A backwater area is an area that has been flooded, usually because of a nearby dam, and there is plenty of cover. However, be careful, as largemouths will detect if the water level begins to drop, and they’ll high tail it out of there quick.
So let’s take a look at how a bass fishing river can produce the bass that you want. Well, first of all, be mindful of what time of year it is. If you are looking at the spring spawn, then try to position yourself in the shallow, warm water areas of the back water. Deep cover provides the environment bass like to build their nests in, and they will hunt for food at the edge of the cover area. When you are casting, try to get your lure as close to the edge of a set of lilly pads or other visible cover, and work through and near the edges as long as possible, to entice the fish to strike.
Remember, if the water begins to recede, so will the fish. Look for them in the cuts between lakes, and perhaps deep holes in the river. Use your plugs and worms and work the edges of the bottom structure for maximum results. You may also look for current changes in the water, and fish the break looking for fish.
